Who We Are

HHSRC is an organization made up of volunteers.  The coaches are the only paid members of the club.  The Board of Directors serves diligently, meeting once a month to make decisions for the smooth functioning of the Club.  Parent volunteers are needed for many very important duties, such as parent supervisors during practice, equipment maintenance, setting up for regattas, driving to out-of-town regattas and fundraising among others.  Without the efforts of volunteers from the whole club, our students cannot train and compete in this sport.  It is imperative that as the student decides to join the club, the student's family makes a commitment to the student and the whole club to share in the work by volunteering.

Legally, this club is identified as "HHS Rowing Club, Inc.".  We are also known as "Hillsborough High School Rowing Club" or HHSRC.  We are proud to be the official rowing club of Hillsborough High School. All Hillsborough High School students, as well as virtual/homeschool students grades 9-12 who reside in Hillsborough County, are welcome to attend.

Mission Statement

To provide the opportunity through rowing for HHS students as well as virtual/homeschool students grades 9-12 who reside in Hillsborough County, to develop their physical talents and competitive spirit while learning teamwork and having fun!

The Hillsborough High School Rowing Club (HHSRC) was originally founded in 1999 to provide students at HHS with an opportunity to participate in the sport of rowing. Since then, in 2019 FSRA has expanded eligibility to allow non-traditional students to row with a scholastic team, as long as the student lives in Hillsborough County.

Our goal is to encourage physical conditioning, teamwork, and organized competition for young men and women. Our athletes practice throughout the school year and compete in both the fall and spring seasons. Practices are usually five times a week, for 2-3 hours. With such a rigorous practice schedule, our students learn to balance both academic and athletic goals. The lessons of time management, concentration, endurance, dedication, and camaraderie are lifelong and invaluable.

Unlike other major sports, rowing is considered a club sport in the school district. As such, HHSRC receives no local or state funding from the school system and relies solely on member families, friends, and the community for financial support. Rowing is a tremendous sport and the purpose of the Club is to encourage participation for as many interested students as possible. It is also a very expensive sport that requires a lot of equipment and supervision. HHSRC makes every attempt to keep fees and costs at a minimum for families and supplements its budget with fundraising events throughout the year.
