Coaching Staff:
Head Coach Miroslav "Misha" Jezdanov (Fall Season 2010)
Misha has been rowing since he was 12 as both a coxswain and rower and was a world champion as a member of the Yugoslavian National Team at 15. He came to the U.S. in 2000 and graduated from Washburn University in Topeka in 2006. After a short stint in the corporate world, Coach Misha decided to jump into coaching as a Graduate Assistant at Dowling College in 2008 and Head Coach at St. John's in New York in 2009. After a season at West Side Rowing in Buffalo, NY, Coach Misha wanted to move to a warmer climate. Well, Westside's loss is our gain. Just spend 5 minutes with Coach Misha and you realize he is going to be a great addition to our club!

Assistant Coach Alaina McGinnis (Fall Season 2010)
Alaina McGinnis is a University of Tampa graduate (writing major with an English minor), where she rowed as part of the varsity heavy weight team. She was born in Worcester, MA and grew up in Shrewsbury, MA. Alaina rowed all four years of high school for the Shrewsbury High School girls varsity team. Rowing has been a huge part her life ever since. She was a volunteer coach to the 2009 UT novice girls team. Her coaching style is intense but fun. She focuses a lot on harnessing the power of the legs while maintaining a slower advance up the slide to the catch. Her goal is to bring the team to Nationals in the spring season.
During her free time, Alaina enjoys playing her guitar and Djembe (hand drum), writing both poems and short stories and playing Tomb Raider. She is also a surfer with a passion for the environment and helping others. She feels that through coaching she can give back to a sport that has given her so much.

About HHSRC:
Unlike other major sports, crew is a club sport in the school district. As such, HHSRC receives no local or state funding from the school system and relies solely on member families, friends, and the community for financial support. Rowing is a tremendous sport and the purpose of the club is to encourage participation for as many interested students as possible. However it is a very expensive sport that requires a lot of work and supervision. HHSRC has traditionally kept fees at a minimum for families and supplemented its budget with fund raising events throughout the year.
HHSRC is a totally volunteer organization. The coaches are the only paid members of the club. The Board of Directors serves diligently, meeting usually once a month to make decisions for the smooth functioning of the club. Other volunteers are needed for many very important duties, e.g. parent supervisors during practice, equipment maintenance, setting up for regattas, drivers to out-of-town regattas, fund raising, etc. Without the efforts of volunteers from the whole club, our students cannot train and compete in this sport. It is imperative that as the student decides to join the club, the student's family makes a commitment to the student and the whole club to share in the work by volunteering.
We are very excited about this new year with great coaches and trainers, and a very enthusiastic group of rowers and coxswains. HHS Rowing is a spirited team and we have shown in the past that we can rank with teams who have longer histories, more experience, and better equipment. We can expect the same and more this year, so GO BIG RED!
